Exigências térmicas para o desenvolvimento de Palmistichus elaeisis (Hymenoptera, Eulophidae) em pupas de cinco espécies de lepidópteros Iheringia, Sér. Zool.
Bittencourt,Maria Aparecida L.; Berti Filho,Evoneo.
The thermal requirements of Palmistichus elaeisis Delvare & LaSalle, 1993 were determined by rearing this pupal parasitoid in the following lepidopteran hosts: Diatraea saccharalis (Fabricius, 1794) (Crambidae), Anticarsia gemmatalis (Hübner, 1818), Heliothis virescens (Fabricius, 1777), Spodoptera frugiperda (J.E. Smith, 1797) (Noctuidae) and Thyrinteina arnobia (Stoll, 1782) (Geometridae). The experiment was set in laboratory conditions (temperatures between 18ºC and 30ºC, RH=70 ± 10% and 14-hour photoperiod). The life cycle (egg-adult) ranged from 40.4 ± 0.63 days (18ºC, H. virescens) to 18.1 ± 0.13 days (28ºC, D. saccharalis). The thermal constant of the egg-adult period ranged from 353.1 (D. saccharalis) to 407.7 degree-days (S. frugiperda)....

Growth and development of honey weed based on days or thermal units Planta Daninha
Silva,A.P.P.; Marques,B.S.; Lima,R.S.O.; Machado,E.C.R.; Gonçalves,M.F.; Carvalho,S.J.P..
This work was carried out with the objective of evaluating the growth and development of honey weed (Leonurus sibiricus) based on days or thermal units (growing degree days). Thus, two independent trials were developed to quantify the phenological development and total dry mass accumulation in increasing or decreasing photoperiod conditions. Considering only one growing season, honey weed phenological development was perfectly fit to day scale or growing degree days, but with no equivalence between seasons, with the plants developing faster at increasing photoperiods, and flowering 100 days after seeding. Even day-time scale or thermal units were not able to estimate general honey weed phenology during the different seasons of the year. In any growing...

Growth and development of sourgrass based on days or thermal units Planta Daninha
Marques,B.S.; Silva,A.P.P.; Lima,R.S.O.; Machado,E.C.R.; Gonçalves,M.F.; Carvalho,S.J.P..
This work was carried out with the objective of evaluating growth and development of sourgrass (Digitaris insularis) based on days or thermal units (growing degree days - GDD). Two independent trials were developed aiming to quantify the species' phenological development and total dry matter accumulation in increasing or decreasing photoperiod conditions. Plants were grown in 4 L plastic pots, filled with commercial substrate, adequately fertilized. In each trial, nine growth evaluations were carried out, with three replicates. Phenological development of sourgrass was correctly fit to time scale in days or GDD, through linear equation of first degree. Sourgrass has slow initial growth, followed by exponential dry matter accumulation, in increasing...

The effect of metrifonate on the immunity of the exposed fish are evaluated through the determination of the antibody titer and mortality rate during the challenge trial. In the chronic toxic exposure to metrifonate by dose 0.17mg/liter for 8 weeks, the more clear signs were darkness of fish color with hemorrhagic patches & loosing of scale at end of the trial the color return to normal. Determination of some blood parameters revealed significant decrease of white blood cell count, as there were lymphopenia and nueutrophilia during the chronic exposure to metrifonate. Phagocytic assay revealed a significant decrease in both phagocytic activity (PA) and phagocytic index(PI).Hypoproteinami hypoglobulinaemia and hypoalbuminaemia were observed. The...

This study evaluated the diet and reproductive aspects of the population of Pimelodus maculatus around net cage fish farming in order to assess the possible impacts of this activity. Monthly collections were performed from March 2008 to February 2009 on two populations: one close to the net cages (NC) and one from an area not influenced by these cages denominated the “reference site” (RS). Results of the Alimentary Index (AI), Gonadosomatic Index (GSI), reproductive potential and histological analysis were obtained for both NC and RS populations. The population from NC used leftover food (ration) that escapes from net cages as the main food item (99.3%). For the RS population, the detritus item was the more important food source (51.7%). The Detrended...

Initial growth and development of southern sandbur based on thermal units Planta Daninha
Machado,E.C.R.; Lima,R.S.O.; Silva,A.P.P.; Marques,B.S.; Gonçalves,M.F.; Carvalho,S.J.P..
Availability of basic information on weed biology is an essential tool for designing integrated management programs for agricultural systems. Thus, this study was carried out in order to calculate the base temperature (Tb) of southern sandbur (Cenchrus echinatus), as well as fit the initial growth and development of the species to accumulated thermal units (growing degree days - GDD). For that purpose, experimental populations were sown six times in summer/autumn conditions (decreasing photoperiod) and six times in winter/spring condition (increasing photoperiod). Southern sandbur phenological evaluations were carried out, on alternate days, and total dry matter was measured when plants reached the flowering stage. All the growth and development fits were...

La langouste rose Palinurus mauritanicus de Mauritanie : Biologie, pêche et état du stock OceanDocs
Kojemiakine, A.; Diop, M..

Introduction: Through the combined works of research, local communities and professionals, a new activity has been created, "vénériculture", i.e. clam farming. Thanks to the knowledge acquired in research as well as production in the shellfish field, clam production results followed shortly thereafter. Rightly so, only 10 years have elapsed since the beginning of the research and the actual production phase (500 t) involving about 300 professionals. Research conducted by IFREMER positively contributes to the creation of new trades as well as diversity within existing professions. Clams are marketed nationally as well as exported. French producers are truly competent, but the prospect of open borders and increasing competition requires maintaining a high...

Subjected to multiple modifications which are responsible for important disruption in the functionning of the lagoon ecosystem during the last decenies, this lagoon is one of the most important sites for the region economy. The aim of this study is to propose a knowledges synthesis utilizable for a future fitting and management water plan. In fact, many studies realized during the last years are obsolete or uncompleted to explain the present state. Hydrogeololical studies, the most important, are not completed to understand the karst-lagoon relations. The wind-driven flow in the closed bassin, must be considered to explain biogeochemical process and the sewage discharges dispersal in the lagoon. Numerical models, with new physicochemical data, appear to be...

Larval development of Spodoptera eridania and Spodoptera frugiperda fed on fresh ear of field corn expressing the Bt proteins (Cry1F and Cry1F + Cry1A.105 + Cry2Ab2) Ciência Rural
Bortolotto,Orcial Ceolin; Bueno,Adeney de Freitas; Queiroz,Ana Paula de; Silva,Gabriela Vieira.
ABSTRACT: The objective of this study was to evaluate extent of larval period, larval survival (%), food consumption, and pupal biomass of Spodoptera eridania and Spodoptera frugiperda (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae ) fed on fresh ears of field corn expressing Bt proteins (Cry1F and Cry1F+Cry1A.105+Cry2Ab2). Larvae of Spodoptera spp. survived less than two days when they consumed Bt corncobs and showed 100% mortality. Spodoptera eridania reared on non-Bt corn cobs showed higher larval development (21.6 days) than S. frugiperda (18.4 days) and lower viability (56.4% and 80.2% for S. eridania and S. frugiperda , respectively). A higher amount of corn grains was consumed by S. eridania (5.4g) than by S. frugiperda (3.9g). In summary, this study demonstrated that...
