The thermal requirements of Palmistichus elaeisis Delvare & LaSalle, 1993 were determined by rearing this pupal parasitoid in the following lepidopteran hosts: Diatraea saccharalis (Fabricius, 1794) (Crambidae), Anticarsia gemmatalis (Hübner, 1818), Heliothis virescens (Fabricius, 1777), Spodoptera frugiperda (J.E. Smith, 1797) (Noctuidae) and Thyrinteina arnobia (Stoll, 1782) (Geometridae). The experiment was set in laboratory conditions (temperatures between 18ºC and 30ºC, RH=70 ± 10% and 14-hour photoperiod). The life cycle (egg-adult) ranged from 40.4 ± 0.63 days (18ºC, H. virescens) to 18.1 ± 0.13 days (28ºC, D. saccharalis). The thermal constant of the egg-adult period ranged from 353.1 (D. saccharalis) to 407.7 degree-days (S. frugiperda).... |

Fecundity and longevity of Aphis gossypii Glover, 1877 (Hemiptera, Aphididae) at different temperatures and commercial chrysanthemum cultivars (Dendranthema grandiflora Tzvelev). The aphid A. gossypii is one of the main pests in a number of crops both under field and protected conditions. The objective of the present study was to evaluate the fecundity and longevity of A. gossypii under different temperatures and commercial chrysanthemum cultivars (Yellow Snowdon, White Reagan and Dark Splendid Reagan) with different trichomes densities (11.3; 16.6 and 21.6 trichome/mm² of the leaf, respectively) The trials were carried out in climatic chambers, at four temperatures (15, 20, 25 and 30 ±1 °C), 70 ± 10% RH and photophase 10h. The reproductive period... |

This work was carried out with the objective of evaluating the growth and development of honey weed (Leonurus sibiricus) based on days or thermal units (growing degree days). Thus, two independent trials were developed to quantify the phenological development and total dry mass accumulation in increasing or decreasing photoperiod conditions. Considering only one growing season, honey weed phenological development was perfectly fit to day scale or growing degree days, but with no equivalence between seasons, with the plants developing faster at increasing photoperiods, and flowering 100 days after seeding. Even day-time scale or thermal units were not able to estimate general honey weed phenology during the different seasons of the year. In any growing... |

This work was carried out with the objective of evaluating growth and development of sourgrass (Digitaris insularis) based on days or thermal units (growing degree days - GDD). Two independent trials were developed aiming to quantify the species' phenological development and total dry matter accumulation in increasing or decreasing photoperiod conditions. Plants were grown in 4 L plastic pots, filled with commercial substrate, adequately fertilized. In each trial, nine growth evaluations were carried out, with three replicates. Phenological development of sourgrass was correctly fit to time scale in days or GDD, through linear equation of first degree. Sourgrass has slow initial growth, followed by exponential dry matter accumulation, in increasing... |

The effect of metrifonate on the immunity of the exposed fish are evaluated through the determination of the antibody titer and mortality rate during the challenge trial. In the chronic toxic exposure to metrifonate by dose 0.17mg/liter for 8 weeks, the more clear signs were darkness of fish color with hemorrhagic patches & loosing of scale at end of the trial the color return to normal. Determination of some blood parameters revealed significant decrease of white blood cell count, as there were lymphopenia and nueutrophilia during the chronic exposure to metrifonate. Phagocytic assay revealed a significant decrease in both phagocytic activity (PA) and phagocytic index(PI).Hypoproteinami hypoglobulinaemia and hypoalbuminaemia were observed. The... |

Influence of temperature on longevity, fecundity, and haematophagic activity of Aedes (Stegomyia) albopictus Skuse, 1894 (Diptera, Culicidae) under laboratory condition. Based on adults of Aedes albopictus maintained under four constant temperatures, 15ºC, 20ºC, 25ºC and 30ºC, longevity of males and females, fecundity, eggs viability, number of days from emergence to the first bloodsucking, and duration of the preoviposition period were observed. The average of the longevity for female was 19.45, 59.35, 61.55 and 42.72 days, under 15ºC, 20ºC, 25ºC and 30ºC, respectively. The greatest average number of bloodsucking per female was 8.32, under 25ºC. The average number of eggs per female was 1.00, 73.91, 269.87 and 183.69, and the greatest rates of viable eggs... |

Availability of basic information on weed biology is an essential tool for designing integrated management programs for agricultural systems. Thus, this study was carried out in order to calculate the base temperature (Tb) of southern sandbur (Cenchrus echinatus), as well as fit the initial growth and development of the species to accumulated thermal units (growing degree days - GDD). For that purpose, experimental populations were sown six times in summer/autumn conditions (decreasing photoperiod) and six times in winter/spring condition (increasing photoperiod). Southern sandbur phenological evaluations were carried out, on alternate days, and total dry matter was measured when plants reached the flowering stage. All the growth and development fits were... |

Introduction: Through the combined works of research, local communities and professionals, a new activity has been created, "vénériculture", i.e. clam farming. Thanks to the knowledge acquired in research as well as production in the shellfish field, clam production results followed shortly thereafter. Rightly so, only 10 years have elapsed since the beginning of the research and the actual production phase (500 t) involving about 300 professionals. Research conducted by IFREMER positively contributes to the creation of new trades as well as diversity within existing professions. Clams are marketed nationally as well as exported. French producers are truly competent, but the prospect of open borders and increasing competition requires maintaining a high... |

This report compiles 17 short and illustrated syntheses concerning the natural strategies of reproduction and the artificial control of the reproductive process for the flat oyster, Ostrea edulis, the japanese oyster, Crassostrea gigas, the mussels, Mytilus edulis and My ti/us galloprovincialis, the scallop, Pecten maximus. An additional syntheses is presented, as a comparison within molluscs, which are the main research topics at IFREMER concerning the artificial control of the reproductive processes in Marine Fish. Three main subjects are documented : 1. the ecophysiology of the natural period of reproduction in the wild, 2. the methods developed in the hatcheries for the artificial control of the reproductive periods, the gametes collection and the... |
